Gerald Casel

Choreographer Gerald Casel will continue developing Not About Race Dance, a work that critiques the unmarked predominance of whiteness in U.S. postmodern dance. Occupying a space defined by white artists, it contests the structural endurance of white postmodernity by dis-identifying with the white cube activated by Trisha Brown’s Locus and asks how difference can be made visible through choreographic structures that do not make space for brown and black bodies.

Il coreografo Gerald Casel continuerà a sviluppare Not About Race Dance, un lavoro che critica la predominanza anonima dell’uomo bianco nella danza postmoderna degli Stati Uniti. Trovandosi in un ambito definito da artisti bianchi, il lavoro di Gerald contesta la resistenza strutturale della postmodernità bianca, dis-identificandosi dal cosiddetto cubo bianco attivato nella coreografia Locus di Trisha Brown e si domanda come la differenza possa essere resa visibile attraverso strutture coreografiche che non lasciano spazio a corpi “di colore”.
