Joel Kaye (BF '10) awarded 2017 Haskins Medal for "A History of Balance, 1250-1375"

Joel Kaye (BF '10) was awarded the 2017 Haskins Medal by the Medieval Academy of America for his book, A History of Balance, 1250-1375: The Emergence of a New Model of Equilibrium and Its Impact on Thought (Cambridge University Press, 2014). He was working on this book while he and his wife, Thea Lurie, were in residence at the Study Center. The Haskins Medal is the second major prize awarded to A History of Balance. It was also the recipient of the 2015 Jacques Barzun Prize in Cultural History, presented by the American Philosophical Society.
